The space over my fireplace was SCREAMING for something. A wreath? eh...no. A painting? NO. Instead, i made 15 wooden squares, covered them in colored fabric and attached the whole thing to particle board. Then i screwed the entire thing to the wall.

After four hours of stapling, cutting and nailing...

Bada Bing. Classy and artistic.

best of all? they're velcro'ed in place, so i can move the squares around. That should appeal to the A.D.D. side of me!

FYI: this thing is 5 feet by 3 feet and weighs about 65 pounds. Somehow i managed to hang it by myself.

The phone rang on friday evening. The "1980s" called to say they'd like their ceiling fan back. I agreed that it was time for a change. The "fake gold and wood" just didn't fit anymore.
But since i didn't have 70 bucks for a NEW ceiling fan, i decided to take down my old one...clean and repaint it...add new lights...and hang it back up.

BEFORE...

Still BEFORE... and yes, i'd already started taking the lights off before i took this pic. ugh. they're shaped like ugly flowers. who ever thought this thing looked good?

New paint, new lights... viola! A nice, modren-ish light. And it only cost $18 bucks for paint and the light globes.
why yes, those ARE compact flourescent lights! I've gone green!
